What to do in Luxembourg – a one day walking itinerary

What to do in Luxembourg – a one day walking itinerary. Do you only have a short amount of time to spend in Luxembourg and don’t know what to do with your time in the city? Here is a walking itinerary, which will take you to many of the most beautiful spots, without needing to backtrack.

I spent two days in Luxembourg wandering around, but I’ve compressed an itinerary into one day to create a fantastic and scenic walking route. I got lost so you don’t have to.

The Morning in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is filled with many wonderful cafes and restaurants. Start your morning in a cafe then after coffee & croissant you can take a bus out to the Museum of Modern art.

When you have finished browsing around the art gallery, set your google maps to take you to Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator. You can walk or take a bus to the elevator. Buses are completely free in Luxembourg, so there is no need to worry about buying tickets. Just put into Google maps where you want to go and follow the directions for the free bus service.

When you reach the Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator (which is also free) take the scenic elevator down into the Petrusse Valley

Petrusse Valley – Luxembourg

Slowly explore the Petrusse Valley by foot. It’s a beautiful and quaint little region to explore. Set your Google maps to ‘Scots Pub’ and take the route closest to the river. Follow the water towards Scots Pub. Upon arriving you will be greeted by a sweet little village with a selection of cafe’s and a few restaurants. Stop in one of the restaurants in the area by the river for something to eat and drink.

When you are ready, set your Google maps for ‘Rue de Prague’ and explore the picturesque streets en route for photo opportunities. You’ll pass by cute little book stores and colourful buildings along the way.

Getting out of the Petrusse Valley

Once you’ve had enough of exploring you can either walk up ‘Rue de Prague’ toward the city OR walk back down towards all the restaurants close to Scots Pub. If you choose not to walk up the hill close to Scot’s pub you can turn left through a tunnel. This tunnel leads you to another (not so scenic) elevator which will take you to back up to the city and out of the Petrusse Valley.

When you are back at city level, then set your Google Maps to ‘Grand Hotel Cravat’. Opposite this hotel is one of the best views in Luxembourg and it’s home to Luxembourgs oldest hotel bar, which has a lovely, gentle vibe. Enjoy the views over the Petrusse Valley, then pop into the bar for a drink.

Bar Le Trianon opens at 5pm, is closed on Sunday.

And so ends the Luxembourg walking itinerary.

Here is a quick recap of the Google Maps Pins:
