There are some unique places and hidden gems in Hong Kong, despite it being a bustling city known for its fast paced way of life. Keep reading for some inspiration on what hidden gems to visit in the city, no matter if you’re a tourist or local.
Be Humble
A Middle Eastern themed bar in Mong Kong. Found inside a residential apartment block in one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in the world. Be Humble is an unexpected slice of calm in Mong Kok and a real hidden gem. Here you can enjoy smokey cocktails, pots of tea or even shisha, (if that is your thing). Customers are asked to remove shoes at the door, this adds to the relaxed vibe. You can chill on cushions, sip on drinks and enjoy lounging around. Book seats in advance to avoid disappointment.
The Lake House
A European inspired builded, set on the edge of Lake Egret with a mountain backdrop. This is not your typical Hong Kong view. The Lake House has two restaurants inside. Billow is a European restaurant where you will find items such as steak, lamb chops and pasta dishes. Le Vow is a Chinese restaurant which is popular with families for Sunday Dim Sum.
Lock Cha Tea House
Another beautiful white building, set on the boundary of Cotton Tree Drive and Hong Kong Park. Lock Cha teahouse serves vegetarian dim sum and a wide variety of Chinese teas in a rustic setting. The decor and seating is simple, yet authentic. It is the perfect place to relax, eat dumplings and drink tea.
Pirate Bay
A rustic and family run French restaurant on Cheung Chau Island. David, the owner, is passionate about flavours and cooking. What started as a hobby is now a popular little French restaurant (for those in the know). The menu changes every week and David cooks with whatever high quality produce he can get his hands on. Expect a mix of stews, cheese platters and homemade pate’s washed down with a carafe of wine.
Woo Cheong Teahouse
Set in the old pawnbrokers in Wan Chai overlooking the tram lines is a wonderful little tea house. This place is on the higher budget side, so if you want to visit, then go at lunch and try one of their more reasonably priced set menus. Alternatively, you can stop by for a cocktail one evening. The a la cart menu is not for budget or mid range dinners, but is a lovingly renovated historic building worth visiting.
Fortnum & Mason
A British themed tea house overlooking Victoria Harbour. They serve fantastic tea and scones with clotted cream, jam and lemon curd. The afternoon tea serves unlimited sandwiches and cakes. They also have a wide variety of English and Chinese teas and also non alcoholic sparkling tea.
Heritage 1881
In FWD House 1881, just off of Canton Road in TST is a beautiful and well preserved heritage building where you can enjoy a meal, afternoon tea or just a drink.
Hong Kong Museum of Art
If you have been to the Tate Modern in London, this art gallery is it’s cool little cousin. Highly recommend to visit. Not only is it full of unique art from local artists, the views and architecture are also wonderful.
