Busan is a beautiful city in South Korea with a unique culture and stunning natural scenery. Busan may be smaller and more laid back that it’s big cousin, Seoul, but there is so much to explore in this unique little city. Here are some awesome things you can do while visiting Busan.
Visit Haeundae Beach in Busan
Haeundae Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Busan. In true Korean style it has some cute and aesthetic cafes to enjoy the view from. Perfect if it’s too cold or windy to sit out on the beach.
Just a 20 minute walk from Haeundae Beach is Dalmaji-gil Road.
Dalmaji-gil Road
Dalmaji-gil Road is a scenic route located in the Haeundae district of Busan. It’s popular especially during the cherry blossom season and fall foliage season in autumn.
The name “Dalmaji” means “moon viewing” in Korean, and the road offers stunning views of the moon rising over the ocean on a clear night and beautiful views during the day.
Dalmaji-gil Road is also known for its cafes, restaurants, and galleries. You can stop for a coffee or a meal at one of the many cafes and restaurants along the way. The road leads up to the top of a hill, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the ocean. It’s really worth the walk from Haeundae Beach.
Haeundae Sky Capsule
Half way between Haeundae Beach and Dalmalgi-Gil Road is the Haeundae Sky Capsule. Made famous by Tik Tok, I didn’t try it myself, but walked past it and thought it looked interesting. It’s a cute form of transportation that travels along a sky track with a view of the coast line. In hindsight, I have FOMO for not having a quick ride in a sky capsule.
Bupyeong Kkangton Market
One of my favourite things to do in Busan is walk around the night market, soak up the atmosphere and eat street food. You can read all about Bupyeong Market here.
Explore Gamcheon Culture Village
Gamcheon Culture Village is a colorful hillside village known for its quaint alleys, galleries, and cafes. You can wander through the narrow streets, take photos, and enjoy the artwork and murals on the walls.
I recommend to go early, because by about midday the Sun is directly above you, it can get pretty hot and it’s terrible for photos at that time. Make this the first stop of the day and visit one of the many rooftop cafes for your morning coffee and something sweet.
Visit Jagalchi Fish Market
One of the largest seafood markets in Korea. It’s great place to experience the local culture and cuisine. You can watch the fishermen bring in their catch of the day and sample some of the freshest seafood in the country.
Take a cable car ride to Yongdusan Park
Another form of transportation to try in Busan. Yongdusan Park is a popular park that offers panoramic views of the city and the harbour. You can take a cable car ride to the top of the park and enjoy the stunning views.
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is a Buddhist temple located in the Gijang-gun district of Busan. It’s about 40 minutes – 1 hour outside the city, so requires a bit of effort to get to. It is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean and is one of the few temples in Korea that is located by the sea. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is known for its stunning architecture, natural surrounding beauty and has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Busan.
Savour Korean café culture
Café culture is an important aspect of daily life in South Korea. Korean cafés are known for their cozy and stylish interior design, and unique decor. You can’t go far in Busan without stumbling on a cafe with award winning coffee and beautiful decor. Allow some time in your busy Busan schedule to savour the moment in a unique cafe.
Eat Korean BBQ
No trip to Korea is complete without munching on Korean BBQ. In the busy shopping and nightlife districts you’ll see Korean BBQ everywhere. If you are a vegetarian I recommend researching vegetarian friendly restaurants before you leave home to save you getting hangry.
Visit a Makgeolli brewery
Makgeoli is a traditional Korean rice wine that has been enjoyed for centuries. In recent years, makgeoli has gained popularity among younger generations, and many modern variations of the drink have been developed.
There are several makgeolli breweries in Busan, where you can learn about the traditional brewing process and try different varieties of makgeolli. Many breweries offer tours and tastings of their facility, as well as classes on how to make your own makgeolli.
These are just a few of the many things you can do while in Busan. The city has something for everyone, whether you’re interested in history, culture, or natural scenery.
