Krakow is one of the most underrated cities in Europe. A little gem, that is rapidly growing in popularity. Keep reading to discover the most awesome things to do with one day in Krakow
Walk around the main square – Rynek Główny
The beautiful main square includes Sukiennice and Bazylika Mariacka. The architecture is wonderful. A great way to view the area is by finding a vantage points higher up. Try climbing the stairs to the church or visiting a balcony bar overlooking the square.
At ground level you’ll find restaurants and cafés offering the quintessential European café experience. There are lots of little alleyways to explore, so why not spend some time getting lost around the main square.
Explore Kazimierz – The Jewish District
The historical Jewish District has little alleyways to explore and vintage shopping. You can find great Middle Eastern food in the area and also Jewish street food on Szeroka Street.
Try: Zapiekanka, which is a baguette style Jewish pizza popular with visitors.
Have a drink on a Wisła River barge
Walking along the Wisła River you can see beautiful architecture, and stop for a drink at one of the floating barge boats.
Visit Wawel Castle
Wawel Castle is one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture in Poland. No trip to Krakow is complete without a visit. Make sure to spend some time exploring the interior or exterior of this gem.
Eat and drink
Obwarzanek – which is like a Polish bagel and can be bought from vendors on the street in the main square.
Vodka – of course no trip to Poland is complete without some vodka. Little bars can be found just off the main square. Pop in, pick a flavour, down it and leave. I tried hazelnut and coconut flavour and it was yum!
Pierogi – Polish dumplings are delicious and can be found all over Krakow.
Wiśniówka – a Polish cherry liquor. If you see people standing on the street drinking something that looks like red wine, it will probably Wiśniówka. Grab a glass and join them.
Polish Soup – The poles are really good at making soup and stews. My personal favourites are borscht, which is a beetroot soup. Also, Żurek, which is meat broth with fermented sour rye and Polish white sausage.
